2023 Golf Tournament Recap

33 Teams participated in our 2nd Annual Corporate Golf Tournament at the Club at Savannah Harbor, sponsored by ACC Construction and Georgia Ports Authority. Thanks to all the teams and sponsors who participated, over $41,670 was raised to help us build a workshop which will allow us to move our supported employment program onto our own property and hire even more individuals with disabilities!

On April 1st, we had our first event on Blue Sky Acres’ new property in Springfield! Over forty people attended the event to pray and bless the land! We wanted our first event on the property to showcase the goodness of God and his provision of the land that we had been praying for for over two years.

God’s Provision through People

Blue Sky Acres has been very blessed recently by God’s provision through a number of people! Through a friend of a friend, in February we were connected with Jack White and Jean Humphreys who made a very generous donation of over $5,000 in supplies to our program, which was God’s perfect timing for us as we get ready to move onto our property!

Volunteer View: Larry Dreams Big for BSA!

Larry Fort has served as a volunteer and board member at Blue Sky Acres (BSA) since February 2021. Prior to volunteering at Blue Sky Acres, Larry retired from a position as Chief Operations Officer at Effingham Hospital. He also owned his own construction company. Although he is involved in many aspects of BSA, the program nearest to Larry’s heart is the supported employment program which hires young adults with disabilities.

BSA’s First Movie Night Proves to be a Great Success!

At Blue Sky Acres we are all about relationships, especially with our students who are the heartbeat of our programs. On Saturday, October 15, we hosted a Movie Night for students in our Equine Activities Program. Grace Community Church allowed us to gather in their Education Center. Eight of our fantastic students showed up to have some fun with a large group of their favorite volunteers.

First Annual Sporting Clay Tournament

On the morning of our Sporting Clay Tournament, Blue Sky Acres’ staff and board arrived early at the 17 South Rod and Gun Club. We were fortunate to have fantastic weather that day and a great turn out! Teams from the Tybee Island Police Department, Coca Cola, Morgan Corp and RBL Supply Chain Consulting all participated in the event.

Exciting Things are Happening in Supported Employment

BSA currently has three fantastic employees who each work six hours a week. We acquired them through B & B Care Services of Springfield, GA. They are a great resource for us, as they seek to partner with employers and “provide assistance and job skills training to a diverse population of people, including those with disabilities.” What sets our program apart is that each employee that comes to us is paired with a skilled volunteer mentor that works one-on-one with them during their job shift.
